Little Steps for Big Results
December 12th, 2007 | by Jeniffer |We all have things in our lives which we wish were different.
We wish we weighed less, were more attractive, made more money, owed less debt.
At times, these things can seem overwhelming, and can become so large when we focus on them that they flatten our spirits, squashing any hope of getting out from under them.
The good news here is that, as in so many areas of our lives, there is hope.
Like many other things, if we take small steps on a regular basis, we will get where we want to be.
For instance, if we want to lose weight, we must realize we cannot do so overnight.
As I have said before, the weight did not get to the number it is at overnight. It will not get to where you want it overnight either.
However, by incorporating one small change at a time, we can lose weight, get fit, and feel great about ourselves and our accomplishment.
Cut out junk food.
Eat healthier.
Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.
Take a 20-30 minute walk every day for thirty days, and watch the pounds disappear.
If we want to get out from under a mountain of debt, we must again commit to a series of small steps, which, put together, will eventually get us out from under that mountain.
Commit to making more than the minimum payment on each of your credit card bills every month.
Never borrow from a credit card to pay off another bill.
Pay down the highest interest bearing bills first, such as 20% interest rate credit cards, while paying above minimum payments on everything else.
If you can’t afford to pay cash for something, do not buy it.
Cut all your credit cards in pieces.
As each of your debts is paid off, allow yourself a small celebratory indulgence–a movie, a night out, a special time with your spouse or kids. Nothing that you cannot afford to pay cash for, however, and nothing of such extravagance that it would put you further back down that hole.
If increasing our income is one of the things which we are desiring, there are courses you can take to get more skills. Some companies have programs you can enlist in to advance your knowledge in a chosen field. There are apprenticeship programs available, night courses, correspondence courses (make certain it is from a reputable, legitimate education facility), and seminars available.
As well, it is a good idea to study the company where you are working, to see how others have gotten to where they are today, if that is where you would like to be someday. Some places even offer mentor-ship programs. If not, find yourself a mentor, someone you may not even know, who has gone where you want to go, and discover what they did to get there.
Then try it for yourself, modifying to suit your skills and abilities as needed.
Want to be more attractive?
I think the most attractive thing a person can have is the confidence to share a warm, welcoming smile.
Seriously.
And the confidence for it to be genuine.
So working on your confidence is the answer I would give you on that one.
Dress well.
Practice normal good hygiene, such as tooth care, showering, using deodorants, etc (I know you don’t need this bit of advice, but it’s here for those who do).
Greet people as you would want them to greet you, offer helpful, honest opinions and suggestions.
Confidence and inner happiness are the most attractive things I know of.
Nurture these.
If there is some other area of your life where you feel dissatisfied, why not take the time to conisder what you can do to change it?
What small steps can you begin to take now, to get you to where you want to be?
Make a list.
Start carrying out those little steps now.
