Gifts of The Season

December 15th, 2007 | by Jeniffer |

Being the Holiday Season, many people are preoccupied with giving and receiving gifts.

Family members, co workers, friends, neighbors  and acquaintances jostle about, searching for the perfect present for their special someone.

That got me wondering–what can we do, to be sure that the gifts we present are ones which will be cherished time and again by the person we give them to?

Some thoughts…

-as early in the year as it occurs to you to do so, begin jotting down items which someone mentions, no matter how casually, that they wold really like to have.

Keep a running list of these, for all the people you will be shopping for come this season next year.

You’ll be able to pick and choose from among several excellent gift suggestions, many of which the receiver will never expect you to have remembered them mentioning.

-explore their interests.

If there is a particular sport they are into, look into the trappings of playing, or getting tickets to a game they would love to attend.

If there is a hobby which they are deeply involved in, find what it is they would most enjoy having, to heighten their pleasure in their hobby.

You can always do a search online to find out more about what they are into, if it is something which you are unfamiliar with.

-pick up clues from their home

What is it that they do not have, which would greatly aid them in their lives, or make their homelife more enjoyable?

-what about their work life?

Is there something they could really use for their at work life? Something which would make their job more enjoyable, easier, or more pleasant?

Perhaps something which would help them in becoming better organized?

Maybe a book on how to get everything done which they must, how to organize their lives and their day? (Getting Things Done is a popular one, although I have not yet had the chance to read it.)

-do they have a pet which they adore?

I know people who have pets, and many of them would rather get Fido something special than get something for themselves.

Or perhaps just include a separate little gift for their cherished companion.

-visit.

Spending time with people is the only way to get to know them well enough to be able to determine what sort of gift they would really, deep down appreciate.

And the time you spend with them is a gift in itself, not only to them, but to you.

Happy Holidays to you all.
