Fantastic 5 For Friday–Talkin’ About Our Resolutions
December 28th, 2007 | by Jeniffer |I don’t technically make New Years’ Resolutions. Instead, I prefer to constantly be moving toward various goals. I will try out something for a thirty day period, then, if it is working for me in my life, making it better or healthier or happier in some way, I will continue doing it. However, I do get asked what goals I am working towards more often at this time of year than I do at any other.
I am a firm believer in goal setting and achieving, year round, while many people do not even consider the future until confronted with the passing of another year.
Without further ado, then, here are 5 Goals I am currently working on, which you may like to adapt for yourself into New Years’ Resolutions, or more preferably into goals, beginning now.
I worked on each of these for a thirty day period. At the end of that time, I evaluated the goal, and chose to renew it.
These are five which have been working for me so far, and which I have kept working on because of that.
1) One goal I have that I have been working toward for awhile now is to eat healthily 80% of the time.
My 80-20 rule states that if you eat healthily 80% of the time, but indulge 20%, you are still successful in following a healthy way of eating.
This is working well for me.
I like it because it has what a “diet” may refer to as “cheating” built into it. If I wanted to lose weight, I would add calorie counting and cutting back on fatty stuff to this one. However, I am not attempting to lose weight at this point, just to get healthy. As Iget older, I find appearance does not matter so much as does my body’s ability to carry out its daily functions. Looking good while I do it has become more of a side affect to good health.
2) Another goal I have been working toward is to increase my exercise.
I started with daily 20 minute walks, added my 50-50-20 workout (50 kicks, 50 crunches, and 20 push-ups), and have been adding longer walking intervals while pulling my son on his toboggan, plus occasional indoor workouts with a treadmill or recumbent Exercycle.
Again, losing weight is not what I am after.
It’s bodily function which has become important–keeping up with my kids matters more than having a tiny waist.
3) Another one is spending quality time with my family.
I spend time with them doing things–crafts, outdoor play, indoor play, games–stuff that demands we pay actual attention to one another, without a television droning on while we stare at it.
4) I am continuing to not watch television.
DVDs, yes.
Television programs, no. They are simply not worth my time or energy.
Much better to keep my mind and body active, and my family happy at the same time.
(My husband and children do watch television, however.)
5) Another goal I am continuing to work toward is securing our financial future.
Because I want to continue to enjoy a good lifestyle when I retire, I have been putting money aside for that time, now.
Doing this before you get a paycheque, via RRSPs, ensure that not only will you save that money, but you will not pay taxes on it until you take it out of the account.
Try these five simple strategies in your life, and see how they work for you.
