For Those About To Blog–Issue 4–Free Blogs

January 12th, 2008 | by Jeniffer |

Everyone should have a blog.

If you want to sell something, express your creative side, or talk about your life for whatever reason, blogging is a great way to do it. It’s also a way you can showcase your talent, if you are thinking of a career in writing.

This blog is hosted by AnHosting (aff.). It’s a great hosting company, part of MidPhase, and I’d recommend it to anyone. They’reĀ  so great, they did not even laugh at some of the more idiotic (I see now) questions I had, especially in the beginning.

However, for those who do not want to go this route, there are free blog hosting options.

One of these is Blogger, which is owned by Google.

Blogger is free, which is a plus for many people, and after looking into it a bit, I am happy to report that it is also very simple to set up.

Just go to Blogger.com, open an account, pick a name for your blog, and choose the initial design (you can change it later very easily).

That’s it.

Then you can begin posting.

Because of this ease of setup, there are some who have, unfortunately, given it a bit of a black eye by placing Spam sites on it.

Nobody likes Spam sites. Do not do this.

Now.

For a legitimate site, it appears to be quite a good platform.

You can choose between available templates, and with a single click pick the one you would like. You can change your mind (and the look of your site) just as easily.

The dashboard is pretty self explanatory, and it is easy to place things like ads, polls, information about yourself/your site, etc into the template.

One thing you should realize.

Where with a service such as AnHosting, you can own your domain name (ie yourdomainname.com), with Blogger, the name of the site will include where it is hosted (ie yourwebsite.blogspot.com).

To see what a blog on Blogger would look like, for comparisons sake or curiosity, you might like to check out http://healthyhappyme.blogspot.com.

Of course, I use wordPress on this blog, and it’s fantastic. You can do just about anything with it, via plugins. For everything you ever wanted to know about WordPress, go to http://wordpress.org.

As I mentioned last week, you can even get a free WordPress blog. Go to WordPress.com and sign up.
