Quick Motivational Tip #12-Make Yourself Accountable

February 4th, 2008 | by Jeniffer |

Most of us know very well what it is we want to accomplish.

We are aware of our dreams, our goals, the things we want our lives to stand for.

We start out chasing after our dreams and aspirations with vigor and lust after them.

Perhaps weeks go by.

Perhaps days.

Somewhere along the path to our desire, we begin to lose that lust.

We experience a waning in our drive to achieve.

One thing you can do from the beginning of your goal to help combat this when it happens (and it will happen. It does to everyone. The trick is to get yourself to continue moving forward in spite of that happening, to keep going while you don’t feel like doing anything of the sort) is to make yourself accountable.

Make yourself accountable to the largest number of people it is possible for you to be accountable to.

People at work.

Your boss.

Your lover.

You spouse.

Tell everyone you meet what it is you are working to do, what you are aiming to achieve.

Write a book about it, tell the world.

Start a blog about it.

Join a group of like minded people who you are accountable to.

One thing that really works for me, no matter what (and it’s powerful, so use this one sparingly!) is to make a promise to my children.

“I am going to consistently move toward living in a healthier fashion,” for instance, or “I will no longer drink any alcohol, no matter how many people I know may pressure me.”. Something about looking into your child’s eyes and seeing that they BELIEVE you will do it, is incredible. I would never do anything for that belief to wane.

I just can’t imagine the look of doubt in those eyes.

Try one of these methods.

Try all of these methods.

But be certain that, if you make a promise to your children, you are absolutely going to do what you tell them you will do.
