7 Things I’m Glad I Learned
March 17th, 2008 | by Jeniffer |Over our lifetime, there are so many incredible things we can learn to do.
We can learn to walk, run, play, build–such an amazing ability we each have, to learn.
Here are 7 things which I am particularly glad I learned.
What are you grateful to have learned in your lifetime so far?
I am grateful I have learned to…
1) Read
Reading was something which my mom loved to do, and it was a love which she passed on to many of her children.
What a wonderful gift, to be able to delve into the imaginings of other minds, and the thoughts, realizations, and the wisdom of others’.
It is a love which I hope to pass on to my children as well.
2) Write
Another gift from my mom, likely a direct result of the first one.
Writing is a wonderful thing, allowing us to express what we think, what we feel, and much of who we are.
Having others read your writing is an honor I am truly grateful for.
Thank you all so much, for reading this.
3) Walk
I am so glad I can walk!
Many are the hours I have spent in my lifetime, walking and contemplating things, walking and working out problems, misunderstandings, thinking of what to say to someone who I have inadvertently hurt.
Walking is wonderful, providing a meditative state, helping to lower stress, allow you to get exercise, and allow you to get from one place to another, all at the same time.
I really enjoy walking.
4) Drive
I come from a very large family, and I am to date the only female in it who learned how to drive.
Driving is essential to me now, with two children to travel about town with, and relatives in other cities to visit.
Shopping without the ability to drive, with two children in tow, would be much more difficult, especially with one just a toddler.
Plus, a vehicle provides so much room for putting away those things you purchase while going about your day.
And once again, you can be thinking through your problems while driving, although you have to be careful this does not distract you from the actual driving. Accidents happen for less reasons then a momentary lack of focus.
I am so glad I learned how to drive!
5) Blog
I really enjoy having this website.
It helps me work out my creative muscles, learn new things on a consistent basis, express myself, and puts my love of writing and of reading to good use.
It’s an amazing thing to have, and I have learned a lot just by the act of building it.
I would recommend doing this to absolutely anyone who is curious about it.
You can get free blogs if you like; just check out www.wordpress.com and www.blogger.com and pick which one you like.
6) Earn a living
From the time I was very young, I was working for a living.
Not always what I perhaps should have done (I worked as a dishwasher/waitress/cook for a time, and was also in sales in various places. Plus I worked in probably every donut shop we had in town! And factories. I worked there, too.), but I am glad I could work, and earn my way.
And I think each position I held added something to my experience that helped shape the person I am today.
As well, the variety of types of work I had reinforced the “I can do it!” attitude which has done me so well in other areas of my life.
7) Manage my money
I am also very grateful that from those early years onward, I managed my money very well.
I don’t know where I learned this from-likely one of those books I was always reading-but I did it.
And again, my mom’s advice “Pay cash for everything, don’t buy anything you can’t afford”, helped, although I took it and bent the advice just slightly to include using my credit card, but only to the point of being able to pay off the entire balance every month.
Those are seven things which I am grateful I have learned so far. There are many more, I’m sure, but those seven are such basic things, they don’t normally get that much thought. But they’re amazing, just the same. What are you grateful you have learned? Share your thoughts, if you like–comments are always most welcome!
