Fighting Mad Over Gas Prices?

Gas prices have skyrocketed in the last little while.
Where I live, we are now paying just over $1.20 per liter for gas.
Like many people, I am fed up with this continually increasing drain on my finances, but rely on an automobile to go to and from various places.
Yesterday, I received an email which suggested a possible solution, a way that, if enough people participated, could very well force a price war.
I’m going to post part of it here, which is an unusual step for me. I am hoping to get some feedback from others, about what can be done–if anything–to help curb these rising costs.
Here is the email in part:
”The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the biggest companies, .. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of their gas buyers. It’s really simple to do! Now, don’t wimp out on me at this point…keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
“I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30×10=300)…and those 300 send it to at least 10 more (300×10=3000)…and so on, by the time this message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it….. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That’s all!”
What I like about this little note in my email inbox, is that it mirrors my own ideas on changing the world one person, or one area at a time. It multiplies, using the ripple affect, reaching ever-outward to effect the lives of an ever-widening circle of people. And no, I don’t expect that anyone reading this pass it on to ten people. That is not my purpose. My purpose in publishing this is to open a dialogue, a conversation about what we can do about this problem. Just what solutions are there?
Now, for your part: What do you think can be done about rising gas prices? Do you think the original author of the above email note is correct? Do you even use the biggest companies? I have never gotten gas at those , so my promising not to would have zero impact on their profits. But my passing the note on…do you believe it will have an impact? Can we make a real difference by doing as suggested? Any ideas, comments, or suggestions of your own? Why not share! Comments are always most welcome!

Something has to be done about gas prices. They are going sky high and it’s really hurting me financially. I’m not sure if what you stated would work but I’m sure it would help IF everyone would do it.
